AVIGNON

"There were many twists and turns and it was fast moving. I never lost interest." - Tom

In the heart of France, Montana native William Walker lives quietly, hiding from a dangerous past. When he mentors a young pickpocket and becomes entangled in a powerful crime lord’s plot to seize a prized ranch and rare stallion, William must decide: stay hidden—or fight back.

A gripping story of redemption, loyalty, suspense, and unexpected love.

My Story

Mitchell J. Mueck loves to travel, and on a trip to France with his wife, Irina, in 2024, he imagined most of the story and main characters that inspired his first novel, Avignon, aptly named after a city they visited there.

He has a wealth of experience in various aspects of the construction industry around the US, in Oklahoma, Texas, California, and New York, where he has had between 1 and 125 employees at a given time.

At an early age, Mitchell was training horses, as well as backpacking in wilderness areas, learning survival skills, both of which have been incorporated into his protagonist’s persona in Avignon.

He has also written his autobiography, The Story, which tells of the tragedies and triumphs he experienced by age twenty, including struggling with a debilitating disease but overcoming the doctor’s poor prognosis, and becoming a widower at age nineteen.

More than anything else, Mitchell enjoys sharing the things life has taught him to anyone he can.

Author

I read the book in three days. I don’t really like to read but each time I set it down I couldn’t wait to get back to the book. I really liked the strength of the characters in the story. There were many twists and turns and it was fast moving. I never lost interest.

I appreciated that the characters stayed consistent in their morals all the way through. I read the book in two days and it never felt slow at any point. The book presents pressures that we face when trying to understand justice and how it might be viewed differently in certain situations. It was entertaining and held my interest. I also think that the book would be a great addition to the curriculum for a discussion in a class on ethics.

The main elements of a novel- plot, characters, setting, theme, point of view and style- are all well covered, creating a compelling story that is difficult to put down. The main character is incredibly appealing. The other characters can’t help but be drawn to him, whether out of curiosity, desirability, or fear, and this makes for a fantastic reading experience. The author switches the point of view to other characters from time to time, letting the reader be a part of each character’s growth and journey. I hope the author has some ideas churning in their mind for a sequel. I would love to see what unfolds in the future of the different characters.
